Lecture to honor local Native American artist

The late Oscar Howe never let failure keep him from becoming a great artist.

After his rejection from the Philbrook Art Museum, he continued to paint modern art that reflected the Native American Culture in a new way and the University of South Dakota will host the annual Oscar Howe Memorial Lecture to honor Howe’s accomplishments.

The 22nd annual Oscar Howe Memorial Lecture will be held at Farber Hall Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Christina E. Burke, curator of Native American and Non-Western Art at the Philbrook Museum of Art will present a lecture on “Oscar Howe and the Philbrook’s Indian Art
