Coyotes return to DakotaDome Saturday

After a tough 28-3 loss last week, the University of South Dakota football team (4-3) is looking to get back on track as they come back to the DakotaDome and take on the University of California Davis (2-4).

The loss last week disappointed Head Coach Ed Meierkort, who said he thought the team had been gaining momentum.

“We played really well two weeks ago (versus Southern Utah),” Meierkort said. “It was kind of two steps in the right direction for us, but last week was rough. It kind of brought us back a big offense.”

The UC Davis Aggies are coming off of a 38-17 win over the University of Texas- San Antonio.  The Aggies were led by their sophomore quarterback Randy Wright, who threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns last week.

USD has never defeated UC Davis in the team’s two previous match-ups in the Great West.

Wright has thrown for 1341 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season. The Coyotes know that slowing down the Aggies passing game won’t be easy.

“Our defense is going to have to play fast,” Meierkort said. “They have a really pretty passing game, where they spread everyone out and sling it around the track.”

This week’s home game is also the parent’s day game for both the football team and the entire university.
