Coyotes win Dakota Days game 24-19

The University of South Dakota football team defeated Southern Utah 24-19 in the Coyotes’ Dakota Days homecoming game, Saturday in the DakotaDome.

Leading the way for the No. 18 ranked Coyotes was senior quarterback Dante Warren. During the game, Warren had two rushing touchdowns and threw for another.

Early in the opening drive Warren threw a 45-yard strike to junior wide receiver Will Powell to set up the Warren touchdown run.

The Coyotes went up 14-0 early in the first half after Warren’s two scores but USD failed to score again until the fourth quarter when Warren found senior tight end Michael Neilson for a short touchdown pass.

USD then recovered a Southern Utah fumble early in the fourth quarter but turned the ball back over after failing on a fourth down and two-yard attempt.

A deep strike from Warren to Powell set the Coyotes up for a field goal by sophomore kicker Kevin Robb to make the score 24-13.

Another touchdown scored by Southern Utah late in the fourth quarter and a failed two-point conversation brought the final score to 24-19.
