Women’s soccer team earns first win

The University of South Dakota women’s soccer team snatched a win and a tie in their first conference match-ups of the season last weekend, leaving the team with a 2-0 conference record.

The team faced Western Illinois Friday, Sept. 30 in Vermillion.

The Coyotes scored two goals at the hands of junior Erin Bello, and took a win with a score of 2-1. Two days later, Oct. 2, the team tied Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis 2-2 in double over-time.

Head coach Mandy Green said she was encouraged by last weekend’s games against conference foes, citing the team’s ability to get points up on the scoreboard.

“We are a young team and we’re still learning, but we’re still making some pretty big mistakes,” she said.

Green said the team is looking to improve their defense before this Friday’s game against Oakland.

“We didn’t lose (last) weekend, but we gave up three goals,” Mandy Green said. “Our communications skills and leadership are the two biggest things we need to work
