Coyotes looking for three in a row

The USD women’s basketball team will look to make it three consecutive victories when the make the trip west to Cedar Valley, Utah to go head-to-head with Southern Utah University Jan. 28.

Senior forward Amber Hegge will lead the 12-6 Coyotes onto the court Saturday, just four days after being named the Summit League Player of the Week for the third time this season.

Head coach Ryun Williams said the team looks to buckle down defensively on Saturday.

“Last time we played this team we did not guard their players as capably as we should have,” Williams said. “So we will focus on improving our defensive play and sharpening things up a bit on offensive to give ourselves the best chance to win.”

In the teams’ first match-up on Dec. 31, 2011 the Coyotes handed the Thunderbirds their ninth loss of the season, while gaining their ninth win, by a score of 81-69.

The Coyotes are currently tied for fifth in the Summit League with a 4-5 conference record.

Williams said as the final month of the season approaches it is crucial that the team remains focused.

“We put a lot of stock into each and every game,” Williams said. “We call each game “our Super Bowl”, so we need to be focused and ready to go for Saturday’s game and remember to take it one game at a time.”

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
