Dance Marathon fundraising begins this weekend with car wash

Even though the summer months mean vacation time for many University of South Dakota students, some are still working hard for a good cause.

The USD Dance Marathon Executive Team will host a car wash in Sioux City at the Hamilton Street Hy-Vee parking lot from 1-4 p.m. Sat. July 14.

Dance Marathon is an annual fundraiser organized by USD students to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). Last year, the group raised $48702.63 for the organization.

This year’s Dance Marathon is scheduled for March 23-24.

“We want to spread the word about Children’s Miracle Network and USD Dance Marathon at the same time,” said Co-Overall Director Mandi Janicek.

All fundraising money raised goes to the over all marathon total and is then donated to CMN at the Sanford’s Children’s Castle Care in Sioux Falls.

The location of the car wash was chosen so that all 16 executive team members can easily travel to help put on the fundraiser.

The car wash will be the first of many fundraisers this year.

“We are planning on hosting a 5k in September,” Janicek said. “We will also be hosting our pancake feeds and Sunday Fun-Days at Carey’s like previous years.”

The car wash is expected to help raise at least $1,000 dollars, Janicek said.

The Hamilton street Hy-Vee is located at 28th Street and Hamilton Street in the Market Place Shopping Center. For more information and updates on fundraisers for Dance Marathon this year or to sign up to be on the email notification, just send an email to [email protected].
