Faculty consider grading initiative

The University of South Dakota’s University Senate is discussing a plus/minus grading initiative.

The initiative would work to decrease grade inflation. The topic first came up during the Senate’s January 2012 monthly meeting.

At the end of the 2012 spring semester, SGA President Alissa VanMeeteren spoke on behalf of SGA, in opposition to the initiative.

During a May meeting, Provost Chuck Staben said if the initiative were passed, it would be at the instructors’ discretion on whether to apply it.
