Mysterious Twitter celebrity calls for school spirit

Dear Coyotes,

Hate. State.  Two powerful words that form one commandment: show no love to your brethren 116 miles north of us.  And I urge you to obey.

We have many reasons to show no love to those who attend South Dakota State University.  After all, students of the agricultural school of the state that praises ethanol as the second coming, drive their diesel <10 MPG trucks back and forth from work to class (hypocritical much?).  But I’m speaking of a different kind of disdain.  Dare I say, we need those pesky Jackrabbits so we have someone we can hate.

But what good can come from hate?  It’s called a narrative and we’re the good guys.  In our rivalry, we know what’s right.  We walk the path toward success.  We educate the professionals that run this state and keep it healthy.  We are the bosses that know how to actually run a business and run a government.  We train harder.  We’re more involved.  We’re smarter.  We’re better.

So let’s own who we are.  Take pride in being a Coyote and team up!  Howl out in unison “HATE STATE” when you see yellow and blue.  Wear red and white from head to toe.  Make matching Coyote wardrobes for you and your girlfriends.  Paint your chest “COYOTES” (as long as you can spell it correctly throughout the game).  Heckle the Jackrabbits coaching staff and praise your Coyotes as they lead us to victory!

Basically, don’t Hate State by yourself.  That’s not the point.  It’s a rally call.  It’s about having a common enemy for us to rise against together and defeat in spectacular fashion.  It’s unity.

It’s a, “United we stand, divided we fall” kind of thing.

And if you ever feel bested by our neighbors up north, take it as a challenge.  Better yourself and better others around you.  Push each other to succeed.  We’re only as strong as our newest class of Coyotes, so usher them in and teach them what you know.

Take them with you to games, show them your pride and instill it in them.  Take them to your student organizations, show them your work and dare them to do better.  Take them out for a (legal) night on the town, show them what Vermillion has to offer and how they can make the best of it.  Take them into your hearts, show them what you love and what you hate.  And if you’re a Coyote, know one thing for certain: Hate State.
