Major promoted with SDSU rivalry

For the first time in nine years, the University of South Dakota Coyotes will play the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits in football Nov. 17 in Brookings. In recognition of the renewed rivalry and to help promote USD’s new sustainability major, the College of Arts & Sciences is sponsoring a T-shirt swap.

Students, faculty and staff can drop off any item of SDSU apparel, in any condition, in the Muenster University Center, and in exchange will receive a brand new USD T-shirt.

All old SDSU clothing will be recycled and returned to the SDSU campus by the Department of Military Science before the game.

Matthew C. Moen, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, said in a press release that the T-shirt exchange helps promote a new academic major in a light-hearted way.

Assistant professor Meghann Jarchow, coordinator of the sustainability program, said in a press release that the T-shirt exchange is a fun way to encourage sustainability, but is also a practical way of getting USD students involved with the new major.

USD’s sustainability major was offered for the first time this fall. Students can specialize in either natural sciences or social sciences.
