Campus blood drive scheduled

The University of South Dakota will host a campus blood drive Feb. 20 and 21 in cooperation with the Community Blood Bank.

Community Blood Bank, a joint cooperation between Avera McKennan Hospital and Sanford Medical Center, is stationed outside Sioux Falls, S.D. and services the blood needs of 29 hospitals in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota

According to Community Blood Bank’s website, blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months due to weather and illnesses. February is a particularly difficult month to maintain adequate levels of blood supply.

Students interested in donating blood should register inside the Muenster University Center. The actual donation will occur inside the bloodmobiles, stationed outside the MUC, and will take 20 to 30 minutes. The blood drive is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To be eligible to donate blood, individuals must be in good health, at least 17 years of age and weigh 110 pounds or more. A person can donate blood once every 56 days. Donors should bring a form of indentification.
