“Pride on the Prowl” set as Dakota Days theme

The 99th annual Dakota Days Homecoming Celebration will commence Sept. 29 and run through Oct. 5.

This year co-chairs Ashley Cook and Amos Meyer looked to more student input for the 2013 theme, deciding on “Pride on the Prowl” as this year’s theme.

Coronation co-chairs Courtney Solma and Taylor Vavra are re-surfacing the “Little Miss and Mr. Dakota Days” competition that involves local second grade students. Among other activities, the homecoming game against Missouri State begins at 2 p.m. following Tailgate Nation at noon.

The Royalty Reveal and pep rally are set for 7 p.m. in Aalfs Auditorium on Oct. 1, and performances by comedian Rob Little will begin at 8 p.m. on Sept. 30, also in Aalfs Auditorium.

The Vermillion community is invited to participate in a spirit competition in which participants adorn their businesses or houses in Coyote pride and USD spirit. Participants will receive recognition at the homecoming football game and winners will be awarded a Coyote Game Day Package.

As the date approaches, applications for entering a float in Saturday’s parade and marching band forms will be available online at www.usd.edu/dakotadays.
