USD ROTC program cut, will be removed in 2015

The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at the University of South Dakota is being cut according to a notice released by the U.S. Army Cadet Command.

The release states that the listed programs will close following the 2014-15 academic year.

USD was one of 13 universities across the U.S., including North Dakota State, to have its ROTC program eliminated.

South Dakota State and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology both have active ROTC programs, but were not among the 13 schools listed.

According to a fact sheet released by the USACC, enrolled cadets who plan to graduate after May 2015 are given the option to transfer to a university with an active ROTC program.

USACC representatives and members of the USD ROTC program were not available to comment Friday.
