USD to play No. 2 Stanford in first NCAA tourney appearance

The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team will play Stanford March 22 in Ames, Iowa, for their first round game of the NCAA Tournament.

USD was given a No. 15 seed as they take on No. 2 Stanford (29-3).

“It’s going to be a tough challenge, but we’ll see what we’re made of,” said senior forward Polly Harrington.

The game will start at 5:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum, and will be aired on ESPN2.

Junior guard Nicole Seekamp also voiced her enthusiasm on taking on Stanford.

“It’s just crazy. I never thought that we would be playing Stanford,” she said. “They’re just another team like us, so hopefully we can go out there and get the win.”

Head coach Amy Williams shared her own thoughts on the upcoming matchup.

“It’s going to be a tough battle, but we’re excited to go dancing,” Williams said.

The Coyotes received an automatic bid to the tournament after beating out Denver March 11 for the Summit League Tournament title.
