Police: Man who was shot in head while driving in Sioux Falls dies; suspects are in custody

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Police in Sioux Falls say the 18-year-old man who was shot in the head while driving in Sioux Falls Thursday has died.

Police say Anthony Lee Gabriel, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday. Two teenagers suspected of shooting Gabriel are in custody.

Police say the incident happened after two groups of people had a “discussion or argument.” Two cars then chased each other around the city after the argument broke out.

Seventeen-year-old Connor Byron Hanson and 19-year-old Robert Edward Montes are accused of firing shots at Gabriel’s car. Gabriel’s 20-year-old girlfriend and her 5-month old baby were also in the car.

Hanson and Montes were later arrested in Minnesota where they’re being held pending extradition. They’re facing charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. It’s unclear whether they’ve attorneys.
