Seven things you realize when you go back home

1. It’s a big deal for your parents and your neighbors.

It’s like a hero’s welcome when people find out you’re coming back for a weekend.

2. Your bedroom isn’t your bedroom anymore.

It might still look the same but it doesn’t feel the same.

3. Your friend group from high school is starting to grow a part and move away.

This is both sad and awesome at the same time. Sure, you might not get to see each other that often, but you know that they’ll always be there for you.

4. Your hometown basically stays the same as when you left it.

This includes both the people and the businesses. You’re pretty sure the town bar will be there until the end of time.

6. Your “home” isn’t actually your home anymore.

It’s where you grew up and it’s where your family lives, but it’s no longer the place you call home when you’re talking with your friends. Your home is your dorm room and your college. This is a daunting realization and a sad one, but one that you have to come to terms with.
