Tech Center Looks For Tenants, Sues Company That Backed Off

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — A $4.2 million building in southeast South Dakota that’s meant to host technology companies is looking for tenants after the facility’s managers sued a company that backed off a deal to move in.

The Vermillion Area Chamber & Development Company is responsible for the 32,000-square-foot facility in the outskirts of Vermillion. Executive director Nate Welch tells the Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan ( ) that the Vermillion Technology Center was built for Minnesota-based Eagle Creek Software Services, but the company is no longer moving in.

Welch says the company was expected to enter a long-term agreement to lease the building. Welch’s group through the lawsuit is seeking about $3.1 million in future rent.

A representative of the software company didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment on the lawsuit.
