Winter Weather Advisory, Blizzard Warning Posted In SD

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Transportation authorities are warning motorists across South Dakota about dangerous driving conditions as the eastern two-thirds of the state are either under a blizzard warning or winter weather advisory.

The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has posted a winter weather advisory and a blizzard warning for late Monday and Tuesday. Forecasters say 2-5 inches of snow is possible, with the highest amounts falling north of Interstate 90.

The blizzard warning extends from about Murdo all the way east to Watertown. Meteorologist Brad Adams says winds are expected to reach 30-45 mph by lunch time Tuesday in areas east of the Missouri River, blowing the snow around and reducing visibilities.

Transportation officials are encouraging drivers to postpone travel plans until Wednesday. Wind chills early that day are expected to be in the minus teens and 20s.
