Deputies Rescue Brookings County Woman From Burning Home

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — A Brookings County woman is being treated for smoke inhalation after firefighters rescued her from a burning home Friday morning.

The Brookings Fire Department and County Sheriff’s Office responded to the rural home where the 78-year-old woman was trapped inside just before 8:30 a.m.

Deputies broke a window and found the woman unconscious inside the home. The deputies and a firefighter lifted the woman out of the house through the window.

She was taken to the Brookings hospital.

Deputies were also later treated for smoke inhalation and are already released.

The cause of the fire is unknown. The home is a total loss.
