Woman Sentenced For Causing Crash While Fleeing Police

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — An Eagle Butte woman who caused a vehicle crash when she fled from a police officer while driving drunk has been sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison.

Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph Seiler says 28-year-old Kenna Bridwell also was ordered to pay about $58 in restitution. She will be on supervised release for 1 ½ years after her prison term.

Authorities say Bridwell drove into the back of another vehicle while fleeing a Cheyenne River Sioux officer on Nov. 16, 2013. The crash seriously injured a passenger in the second vehicle.

Bridwell pleaded guilty a year ago to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
