Proposed Ban On Cellphone Use By Sioux Falls Drivers Fails

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The Sioux Falls City Council has rejected a ban on cellphone use while driving.

Monday night’s vote was 5-3 against banning motorists in the city from using hand-held electronic devices including cellphones.

Sioux Falls already bans texting while driving, but some believe that doesn’t go far enough. City Councilwoman Michelle Erpenbach pushed for an expansion of the ban, saying talking on a hand-held phone while driving is just too dangerous.

Councilman Greg Jamison told the Argus Leader newspaper after the vote that “there hasn’t been an outcry” for a cellphone ban.
