Runners flee from ‘undead’ to raise money for charity

The living dead roamed the streets of Vermillion on Wednesday night.

The Zombie Run, a Dakotathon-sponsored event, saw about 30 participants take part in the annual fundraiser.

The run started at Prentis Park, went through the Vermillion Cemetery and ended back at the park.

During the run, students had to try to outrun people dressed as zombies that were hidden throughout the course. Dakotathon members and ROTC cadets made up the group of the living dead.

The event’s student participation fee was $10 beforehand and $15 Wednesday night.

USD student Aly Perry, a Dakotathon events co-chair, said all of the money raised at this year’s Zombie Run will go to Children’s Miracle Network.

“I think we had a good turn out today,” Perry said. “This is something that we will continue grow throughout the years.”
