Suspect In Shooting Of Trooper Couldn’t Attend Dad’s Funeral

KIMBALL, S.D. (AP) — A man accused of shooting a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper had to watch his father’s funeral on a live video stream, after being denied the opportunity to attend in person.

The Daily Republic reports ( ) that a Brule County judge this week denied a furlough request for Donald London for security reasons.

London has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges including attempted murder in the January shooting of Patrol Sgt. John Koenig, who has since recovered.

London’s 67-year-old father, Michael London, had been accused of aiding in the assault. He died last week in a Sioux Falls hospice. His funeral was Thursday.
