In an email to students on Saturday night, Kim Grieve, the dean of students at USD, announced the death of Anthony Sanfratello.

According to the email, Sanfratello, a 19-year-old sophomore kinesiology sports science major and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, died while traveling back to USD from his home in Chicago on Friday. The Iowa State Patrol reports that Sanfratello, who was not wearing his seatbelt and was the only occupant of the vehicle, was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 20 in Hamilton County around 6:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered into the median where it rolled once before he was ejected into the eastbound lane. An eastbound SUV swerved and missed him, but a second vehicle was unable to, according to the crash report.
