Women take down Minnesota 101-89, advance in WNIT

After defeating Creighton in the opening round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament, the Coyotes traveled to Minneapolis to take on the Golden Gophers in the second round. The Coyotes came up big taking down Minnesota 101-89.

After trailing at the end of the first quarter 26-19, the Coyotes stormed back in the second quarter. They went into halftime up 45-43. From there the Coyotes kept their foot on the gas, going on to win 101-89.

Senior guard Kelly Stewart led the Coyotes in scoring. Stewart scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots. Senior guard Nicole Seekamp also came up big. She scored 18 points, notched 14 assists and had five boards. Seekamp scored her 2,000th career point for the Coyotes. Junior guard Caitlin Duffy had a big 17 points off of the bench, shooting 5-12 from three point range..

Big Ten Player of the Year Gopher senior guard Rachel Banham had another great game for Minnesota. She had 37 points and six threes. Sophomore guard Carlie Wagner also was strong for Minnesota. Wagner scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

With the win the Coyotes advance to the third round of the WNIT. They will take on Northern Iowa on Thursday in the DakotaDome at 7. These two teams met earlier this year in Cedar Falls, when the Panthers took down USD 64-43.
