Coming off of a big 3-1 win over UND in the opening match of the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, expectations were high for the second match.

The Coyotes came out strong in the first set. They notched the same number of kills as UMKC, 14, but defeated the Roos 25-18.

In the second set a late UMKC run made things tight, but the Coyotes escaped with a 25-21 win.

The third set came up all Coyotes. USD took control and put the set away 25-16, to win three sets to none.

Junior Brittany Jessen had another big night for USD. She notched five kills, nine digs and 37 assists. Freshman Elizabeth Loschen had a big impact for the Coyotes, leading the team with 11 kills. Junior Kelly Law also added 10 kills.

The Coyotes’ next matches will come in Omaha, Nebraska, against Ball State and Abilene Christian on Saturday, before they head to Stockton, California, for the Pacific Community Classic next Friday.
