Coyote volleyball sweeps IUPUI

Coyote volleyball just kept on winning Friday evening. USD took down Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in straight sets to remain undefeated in Summit League play.

USD jumped out to a 25-18 win in the first set and did not look back. The Jaguars caused some problems in the second set and made it close, but the Coyotes came through with a 25-22 win. The third set was all USD. The Coyotes coasted to a 25-12 win to complete the sweep of the Jaguars.

Junior Brittany Jessen was once again huge for the Coyotes. The Summit League leader in assists per set finished with 46 assists and 15 digs. Senior Audrey Reeg led both teams in kills with 19, she also added 12 digs. Reeg is second in the Summit League in kills per set. Sophomore Rachel Schmidt was also big for USD, she had 15 kills.

The win sends USD to 16-2 on the year and keeps them at an undefeated 5-0 in Summit League play. Five wins and five sweeps for the Coyotes so far in the Summit League. They have yet to drop a single set in conference play.

This match was the first of two the Coyotes will play over the Dakota Days weekend. Tomorrow the Coyotes will take on Fort Wayne in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 6 p.m. or immediately following the football game against Northern Iowa if it runs long.

Tonight was also the dedication of the SCSC. Following the second set Athletic Director David Herbster, USD President James Abbott and Executive Vice President of Sanford Sioux Falls Paul Hanson spoke to the crowd and donors. It was Abbott’s words to the fans that relayed how important the partnership between Sanford and USD was to getting the SCSC built:

“We can’t thank Sanford enough for everything they have done for USD and for making this great building yours,” Abbott said.
