Students battle it out in North Complex laser tag event

North Complex was a battleground Wednesday night as students armed with laser guns ducked behind cover while trying to take out opponents.

Students gathered to enjoy a friendly battle of laser tag hosted by the Laser Barn in the Beede-Mickleson basement. During the event, students could team up, betray, and “kill” others.

One of the competitors, junior, Nehal Adhikari, played a few rounds.

“It was very fun and tiring,” Adhikari said.  “I would love to do it again.”

Players were equipped with an assault-style gun and a sensor strip wrapped around their heads.  When a laser beam hit a sensor, the player that had been shot would be unable to shoot their gun for 10 seconds.

The game was set up as a free-for-all style, where there were no teams.  However, students could make a pact with others and try to not shoot their teammates.  There were plenty of betrayals.

Yehezekiel Wibisono, a junior, played six games.

“It’s a really good game,” Wibisono said.  “It’s fun when you’re good at it.”

Wibisono teamed up with fellow junior Billy Lee during their first game.

“I got 25 kills and didn’t die once,” Lee said. “It’s a pretty good way to have fun.”

Junior Dennis Carlson thought the event was “awesome.”

“The thrill you get from rolling around as you dodge the lasers is great,” Carlson said.

The playing field wasn’t huge as it took place in the basement, but Carlson said it was still fun.

“For the conditions they were given, it was good,” he said.

Laser Barn is based in Yankton, where they host parties of any kind.  Anyone who wants to have a mobile laser tag event can do so for $350.
