Former USD Women’s Basketball Star gets opportunity in WNBA

The Coyotes second all-time leading scorer and 2016 WNIT tournament MVP Nicole Seekamp has signed with the Dallas Wings of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Seekamp, a 2016 graduate of USD, has spent the last three seasons playing professional basketball in Poland and Australia. She spent the last two seasons playing in the Women’s National Basketball League in Australia. As a part of the Adelaide Lightning last season, Seekamp averaged 12.2 points, five rebounds and six assists.

The Lightning made it to the WNBL Grand Final for the first time in a decade last season. Seekamp was third in scoring and rebounding while leading the team in assists per game. She was also second in 3-point shooting (40%). Seekamp was a part of the Australian national team in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Seekamp was named the 2015-2016 Summit League Player of the Year and a two-time Summit League Tournament MVP. She was a part of the 2014 team that made the NCAA Tournament and the 2016 WNIT Championship team.

“I am super excited to be invited to the Dallas Wings training camp!” said Seekamp, per GoYotes. “It has been a dream of mine for a very long time and a goal since graduating from USD. I would like to thank everyone at South Dakota who has supported me throughout my career. From coaches, teammates, professors, the entire athletic department and of course all of the USD fans!”

The WNBA season does not start until May 24 and runs throughout the summer with the regular season ending September 8. The WNBA draft and training camp will take place in the coming months as team prepare for the league’s 23rd season.
