Coyotes defeat SDSU and NDSU to continue win streak

USD volleyball collected wins against South Dakota State (5-13) in three sets last Tuesday and North Dakota State (7-11) in five sets on Friday to push its win streak to 14.

This year’s win streak is now tied with the school record set in 2007.

USD vs South Dakota State

The Coyotes (17-1) swept the Jackrabbits 25-16, 25-15, 25-16 on Tuesday.

Freshman Elizabeth Juhnke led in kills for USD with 13, followed by senior Elizabeth Loschen and sophomore Maddie Wiedenfeld tied with 8.

As a team, the Coyotes tallied 45 kills, 49 digs and five aces with a .368 hitting percentage.

Senior Anne Rasmussen claimed 18 of those digs, followed by Juhnke with 10 and sophomore Lolo Weideman with 6.

38 out of the 40 total assists came from sophomore Madison Jurgens. Jurgens also provided three kills and five digs for the team.

USD vs North Dakota State

The Coyotes defeated the Bison in a five-set match (20-25, 25-13, 25-17, 15-25, 15-5) on Friday.

Juhnke tallied 16 kills and 12 digs, bumping her double-double game streak to nine. She leads the Summit League with 3.99 kills per set.

Following Juhnke in kills were junior Sami Slaughter with 15, Wiedenfeld with 10 and Loschen with 6.

Rasmussen led in digs for the night with 20 followed by Weideman with 15, Juhnke’s 12 and Jurgens and senior Mehana Fonseca tying with 11.

This win keeps the Coyotes undefeated in the Summit League its sole loss coming in three sets to Iowa State on Sept. 3.

USD’s next match brings Western Illinois to Vermillion for a “pink” game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
