Aberdeen Pair Acquire Rights To Turn Short Story Into Film

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — A teacher and local filmmaker in Aberdeen have acquired the rights to make a film adaptation of a short story from a well-known young adult author.

Brian Hoesing and Terra McQuillen have been given the rights to produce a film based on Bruce Coville’s short story “Duffy’s Jacket.”

Coville is the author of many young adult fantasy and science fiction books including the “Unicorn Chronicles” series, “The Dragonslayers” and “My Teacher Is an Alien.”

The American News in Aberdeen reports ( ) McQuillen initially reached out to Coville to ask about coming to speak in South Dakota and eventually asked the author for permission.

McQuillen says Coville was “instantly” very interested.

McQuillen and Hoesing have written the screenplay and started a Kickstarter campaign to help facilitate production.
