Attorney General Signs Letter Asking EPA To Delay Water Rule

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has joined counterparts and other officials in 30 other states in asking the Environmental Protection Agency to delay implementing a new federal water rule.

Jackley signed a letter that was sent to the EPA and the Corps of Engineers. In June, several states including South Dakota filed a federal lawsuit over the same rule change.

Federal officials say the “Waters of the U.S.” rule clarifies which waterways are protected under the Clean Water Act. The rule is set to go into effect Aug. 28.

At least 27 states, national agriculture and land organizations, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have filed complaints in federal districts courts around the country since the rule was published in June.
