COLUMN: Feedback from students is necessary

Page two of the Verve section is getting a face-lift and we want you to be a part of it.

Editor Payton Randle, Assistant Editor Emily Niebrugge and I have been planning out the possibilities this page presents. We want to make sure this page is engaging and interactive and full of the things you want to see and read.

So far, we’ve come up with a few ideas including a section dedicated to local community and campus events such as concerts, lectures and other art-related ventures.

We’re also going to include a weekly run-down of what’s showing in local and area theaters for the week.

You’ll still see some of the same things already on page two, like some of the Top-10 songs and albums listing, but in addition to that will be a social media section.

We’re still working out the details on this aspect of the page, but what we’re going to try to do is feature a different social media outlet each week. This could include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Stumbleupon, Tumblr and other outlets.

You can also look forward to things like a quote of the week, a quirky story of the week and other interesting odds and ends in the entertainment world.

We are also going to try and switch up the types of reviews we are doing. If you have any suggestions of the something you’d like to see reviewed, such as a television show instead of a movie, we want to know.

One of the more exciting new features we’ve talked about is a weekly feature called “Meet Your Classmates.” We will interview a few students every week with basic and interesting questions to help our campus community atmosphere.

We’ve also discussed adding a “Day in the Life” to the second page which would include us picking some sort of major, such as an art major, and writing what their average day is like. Each week would be a different major.

The main point of updating this page is that we want to provide a more modern and updated arts and entertainment page in our section, a page that readers can go to every week to get their fill of fun and interesting stories, facts and ideas. That’s where you come in.

If you have any suggestions on what you’d like to see on page two of Verve, let us know. We want to make sure we’re creating a page you want to see and read each week. So email us or just stop by the Volante newsroom anytime.
