Court To Hear SD, Arkansas, Missouri Gay Marriage Cases

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A federal appeals court has agreed to take up South Dakota’s ban on gay marriage.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted a request to consider the case at an expedited pace and take oral arguments the week of May 11 in Omaha, Nebraska.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says the court also combined the arguments for South Dakota, Arkansas and Missouri.

He says the 8th Circuit issued its order on Tuesday. The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments on a 6th Circuit case in April, with a ruling anticipated in late June.

Jackley says he plans to work with the attorneys general of Missouri and Arkansas to defend the states’ constitutions and laws.
