Fort Thompson Man Sentenced For Assaulting Girlfriend

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A Fort Thompson man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for choking his girlfriend.

Authorities say that following a party last August, 20-year-old Jared Blaine slapped, hit and kicked his girlfriend before choking her until she couldn’t breathe. She spent a night in a Chamberlain hospital.

U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Blaine pleaded guilty last December to assault by strangulation and suffocation. Blaine was sentenced recently to 27 months in custody to be followed by two years of supervised release.
