Applications Being Taken For $50M Tech School Programs

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakotans and out-of-state residents interested in going to the state’s four technical institutes for in-demand jobs can now apply for part of $50 million in scholarship money.

The Build Dakota Scholarship Board listed 54 program options within eight, high-need industry areas that will be covered in the first year.

Those include automotive, welding, building trades/construction, energy technicians, engineering technicians, precision manufacturing, medical lab technicians and some licensed practical nursing programs.

A complete list is available at .

About 300 scholarships will be available for new, incoming students this fall. Recipients must commit to work in their field of study in South Dakota for three years after graduation.

The program is funded through a $25 million donation from banker T. Denny Sanford and a $25 million grant from the state.
