Bill Legalizing Consumer-direct Wine Shipping Going To Gov
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakotans looking to get their favorite out-of-state vintages shipped to their door are one step closer.
The full Senate approved the bill Friday that would legalize consumer-direct wine shipping for South Dakotans.
Under the bill, South Dakotans could buy up to 12 cases of wine per year directly from wineries. Participating wineries would have to file quarterly reports with the state showing how much they sent to the state and to whom.
The bill was pushed last year by the group South Dakotans for Better Wine Laws, but it failed in the face of opposition from state retailers and wholesalers. It was revived this year after being studied and amended over the summer.
The bill now heads to Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s desk. The governor’s spokeswoman says he supports the measure.
