Feds, State To Host Prescribed Fire Training In Eastern SD
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Federal and state officials will be hosting two prescribed fire training sessions this spring in the mixed grass prairies of eastern South Dakota.
Participants will be instructed on how to safely implement prescribed burns. The interagency training will conduct a series of prescribed burns around Aberdeen, Huron, Madison and Waubay.
The state’s Department of Agriculture says each burn team will work in preparing, scouting, briefing, igniting, holding, mop-up and patrol of the fire. Training assignments will also include pre- and post-fire monitoring, and equipment training.
The sessions are scheduled for April 27 through May 6 and May 11 through 20. The deadline to register is Monday.
