Pierre Building Expected To Return To Normal After Big Year
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota’s capital city has been going through a building boom of sorts.
John Irvine with the city of Pierre told the Capital Journal ( ) that building permits for 2014 totaled $44 million in new construction. He says the last time the city was close to that was 2004 when the total approached $63 million.
Last year’s projects included a senior living facility, an 81-unit apartment complex, a Menards home-improvement store and an elementary school. Other projects included a remodeling project in the Pierre Block Building, an interior remodeling project at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital and a Rawlins Municipal Library project.
Irvine says 2015 will likely be more of a normal year with most of the growth focused on the northeast part of the city with residential and commercial developments.
