Rapid City, Pennington County Forming Disaster Response Team
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Rapid City and Pennington County are forming a team to respond to emergencies such as natural disasters and terrorist attacks.
The All-Hazard Incident Management Team will involve nearly 40 agencies. There will be team members on call at all hours, able to form a disaster response within hours.
Rapid City Fire Chief Mike Maltaverne says that with Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Ellsworth Air Force Base nearby, the area would be a logical target for a terror attack. He says local emergency agencies by themselves wouldn’t have the resources to respond to such an incident.
