Badlands/Bad River Region 1 Of 4 To Get USDA Economic Award

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Economic development leaders in part of western South Dakota have been recognized for coming up with a plan that helps the entire Badlands/Bad River region of Haakon, Jackson and eastern Pennington counties.

The U.S. Agriculture Department says the area’s Stronger Economies Together long-range plan passed a High Quality Plan review, and is only the fourth plan nationally to receive such a designation.

That SET program is sponsored by USDA Rural Development in partnership with South Dakota State University Extension and the Regional Rural Development Centers.

It’s designed to strengthen the ability of rural communities and counties to work together in developing and implementing regional economic development plans.

The designation gives the region access to $5,000 seed money to start putting its plan in place.
