Drug, DUI Arrests Continue To Rise In Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Impaired driving and drug arrests have increased for the fifth year straight in Rapid City.
The department released its crime analysis for 2014 on Friday.
The data show there were more than 1,300 drug arrests in 2014, a nearly 75 percent increase over the five-year average and a 19 percent increase over 2013. The city saw 965 DUI arrests last year, a roughly 16 percent increase over the five-year average and about an 8 percent increase over 2013.
Both categories have increased every year since 2010.

Police Chief Karl Jegeris tells KEVN-TV that most of the drug arrests are marijuana, but they’re closely followed by methamphetamine.
Law enforcement officials have said they’ve seen an increase in the amount of marijuana in the region since Colorado legalized the drug for recreational.
