Sioux Falls Man, 71, Charged With Threatening Officers
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A 71-year-old man has been charged with assault for allegedly threatening officers during a standoff in central Sioux Falls.
Ronnie Lee Medenwaldt was charged last week with three counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement.
Officers were dispatched to an apartment on Feb. 12 after receiving a report of a man acting disorderly. Police say Medenwaldt threatened to slit officers’ throats with a large butcher knife before retreating back into his apartment.
The SWAT team eventually was called to the scene. The Argus Leader ( ) reports Medenwaldt was arrested following a four-hour standoff with police.
It wasn’t immediately known if Medenwaldt has an attorney yet.
