Man Gets 15 Years For Beating Woman Who Said She Was Captive
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for beating a woman who said she was held captive in his mother’s home for a month.
Thirty-six-year-old Daniel Armstrong pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in February in a deal with prosecutors in which kidnapping and rape charges were dismissed.
The Argus Leader reports ( ) that Judge Larry Long on Monday sentenced Armstrong to the maximum number of years allowed under the plea agreement, calling Armstrong “a danger to the women in your life.” The judge also said Armstrong hadn’t properly managed his mental illness.
Armstrong had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but said there was three-month window when he wasn’t taking his medication because he couldn’t afford it.
