2 Mitchell Students To Represent SD In Auto Skills Contest
MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Two students from Mitchell will head to Michigan this summer to represent South Dakota in a national automotive skills contest.
Mitchell High School students Andrew Hartman and Nolan Tegels have earned a spot in the 2015 Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills National Finals. They will compete with other high-school age students from across the country at the Ford Motor Co. world headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
Hartman and Tegels will compete for scholarships, prizes and a chance to shadow a NASCAR race team. The students will be tested with a written exam and also will be asked to diagnose and repair intentionally installed “bugs” on a new Ford vehicle.
The competition to earn the title of “America’s Best Student Auto Technicians” is scheduled for June 7-9.
