SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — Three weeks after police found 36 dogs and five cats in the back of an SUV in Spearfish, the animals are thriving and being adopted.
KOTA-TV reports ( ) Spearfish police officers found the 36 toy-breed dogs and five cats inside the vehicle last month in a Walmart parking lot.

Brenda Hendricks is the co-director of the Western Hills Humane Society. She says a large majority of the dogs are already spayed and neutered, but not all of the puppies are trained. She says they’re working on domesticating them.
