DELL RAPIDS, S.D. (AP) — A Dell Rapids family woke up to officers surrounding their house Friday morning after police received a false report that a man was threatening to kill his daughter.
Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office deputies set up a perimeter around the home after authorities received a call just after 1 a.m. from a man who said he was barricaded in his home. The man told police he was going to kill his daughter and anyone who approached the home.

Captain Jim Hoekman says the family of four inside was sleeping and completely unaware of the situation. No one in the home was being held hostage, and Hoekman says there was nothing “nefarious” happening.
Hoekman says the sheriff’s office is working with the phone company to find out where the call came from.
