South Dakota Trial Attorney Remembered By Friends, Foes
FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A well-known South Dakota trial attorney who died recently is being remembered.

Pat Duffy died in his Sioux Falls home on May 9. He was 58. The Rapid City Journal reports ( ) a memorial is being held at the Parkview Gymnasium in Fort Pierre.
Duffy was a high-profile attorney who made a name for himself taking on everything from environmental to death penalty and voting rights cases.
He first gained notoriety by battling the federal government after it seized “Sue,” one of the most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex fossils ever found. Duffy defended six employees of the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research. Four of them walked away without convictions.
Pennington County State’s Attorney Mark Vargo regularly sparred with Duffy but says he respected his passion for his clients and work.
