Southeast South Dakota Prosecutor Facing Assault Charge
CENTERVILLE, S.D. (AP) — A southeast South Dakota prosecutor is facing an assault charge.
The Argus Leader ( ) reports Turner County state’s attorney Matt Olson has been arrested on charges of simple assault and interference with emergency communications.
The 41-year-old Olson declined to comment on the case. The maximum penalty for each charge is one year in jail.
In a court document asking for a temporary protection order, Olson’s wife claims he took away her phone, eventually giving it to her sister, who separated the fighting couple on Monday. She also states Olson “threw a king size mattress” at her before pushing it out the door and breaking the kitchen table.
Olson’s wife also accuses him of using a knife to cut the house’s electricity. She had filed for divorce days before the incident.
