Volunteers, Donations Needed In Tornado-stricken Community
DELMONT, S.D. (AP) — Officials in tornado-stricken Delmont are asking the public’s help to continue the city’s recovery.
Officials say volunteers are needed Saturday to help pick up debris from the twister that hit the town May 10. Donations of clothing and cleaning supplies are also being sought.
The twister damaged or destroyed 84 structures in and around Delmont and injured nine people. The National Weather Service rated it as an EF-2, with a peak wind speed of 130 mph.
The most needed items include new underwear and socks, pillows, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and garbage bags.
Additionally, monetary donations are still being accepted. Donations designated to the Delmont Disaster Relief Fund can be mailed to First State Bank, P.O. Box 68, Delmont, SD 57330.
