Authorities Accuse Inmate Of Smuggling Drug Into County Jail
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Authorities in southeast South Dakota are accusing an inmate of smuggling a prescription drug into a county jail.
The Argus Leader ( ) reports a grand jury has indicted 21-year-old Sidney McKinney on drug charges.
Authorities say a corrections officer at the Minnehaha County Jail found a bag with five pills of tramadol inside McKinney’s jail shirt during a strip search April 3.
Court records show McKinney told the officer he did not know what the pills were and how they ended up in his shirt.
The indictment charges McKinney with possession of a controlled substance and possession of unauthorized articles in jail.
It wasn’t immediately clear why McKinney was in jail in April. He is not in custody.
It’s unknown whether he as legal representation.
